Project: Blaxland Park

Agent: Glooloop Surfacing

Location: Sydney, NSW

In July 2021, Glooloop Surfacing completed a renewal of the expansive Blaxland Riverside Park surfacing for Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA). Stretched over 3 acres Blaxland Riverside Park is one of Sydney’s largest public playgrounds.

The project involved the demolition and replacement of over 5,000sqm of existing synthetic grass and rubber wet pour using APT’s SBR impact layer and 3412 binder, Melos EPDM rubber granules with 3407 binder and SYNLawn’s Classic 35 synthetic grass.

Completed in three phases during one of the harshest covid lockdowns, the project presented many challenges including:

  • very steep inclines for rubber application which lead to Glooloop developing a new incline rubber technician rig for the safe and effective install of wet pour rubber.
  • the huge area of synthetic grass demanded custom-made oversized grass rolls
  • removing vast quantities of old materials and placing 27 trucks of new materials all while maintaining strict control and minimal impact on the surrounding protected grass, wetlands and environments and its most famous resident – the Green and Gold Bell

Overall strategic thinking overcame these challenges resulting in a unique and adventurous playground that can be enjoyed by children of all ages.

Project: Court Kings

Agent: GameOn Turf

Location: New Zealand

GameOn Turf cleverly recognised a gap in the New Zealand market for an all-in-one basketball court design and installation package, resulting in the creation of a new brand called Court Kings.

A Court Kings basketball court includes exclusive Proballer Turf manufactured by APT, Mega Slam Hoops from USA, as well optional accessories. Court Kings will design and construct a customized court or multiple courts for basketball or multisport use which can incorporate school logos and your favourite NBA club colours. The courts can be installed in backyards, schools, commercial premises and council-owned spaces.

Key innovative features include:

  • Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) and Councils complained that hard courts were causing injuries to players when wet and were unusable. Proballer turf was tested to deliver anti-slip protection in wet conditions, ball bounce within 6% of hard courts, and up to 25% noise reduction.
  • Councils were very receptive to the option of a dynamic metal base used for courts vs a concrete base as it reduced carbon emissions.
  • After hearing many complaints from basketballers re hoops used in public spaces, GameOn Turf conducted thorough research into hoops before selecting supplier Mega Slam as they offered innovative features including height adjustment.

Since it’s launch in May 2021, Court Kings has completed 25 courts around New Zealand and continues to grow.
