Project: Katherine Turtle Playground, Katherine, NT
This gorgeous playground in Katherine, Northern Territory, was custom designed by NT Sport and Playgrounds in conjunction with a local landscape gardener. The design included a turtle, soft fall surfacing and a shade. The sandstone turtle head was made by a stonemason in Sydney with the bespoke turtle climbing shell created by Lump Studios in Melbourne.
The soft fall surface adhered to all of the critical fall guidelines and was created using Melos Mulch along with a blend of Melos EPDM rubber granules.
The end result is a fun, safe and memorable playground for the children of Katherine.

Winner: Grassports Australia (Queensland)
Project: Pimpama Sports Hub, Gold Coast, QLD
Grassports Australia (QLD) was engaged to construct 12 new netball courts as part of the new Pimpama Sports Hub on the Gold Coast, QLD. The project included all structural elements such as the slab, drainage, pathways, lighting, seating, sports equipment, and fencing.
Laykold Advantage was the chosen court surface due to its hard wearing and long lasting qualities, huge range of colours and ability to be re-coated down the track.
Grassports worked collaboratively with the architect and principal contractor in the design phase by recommending the vibrant court colours, altering the slab design to best suit the playability of the netball game, and creating the bespoke decorative line-marking and patterns on the courts.
All surfaces and pathways were DDA met and approved.

Innovation Award
Winner: TEB Contractors
Project: Largs Bay Primary School, Largs Bay, SA
Early in 2020 TEB Contractors were engaged by the Spotless Group to give an existing weathered asphalt area at Largs Bay Primary School in South Australia a much-needed facelift.
The school required an area that was suitable for multiple sports, various age groups, and Holiday / After school care programs. The existing area was very old, tired and had extensive cracking, which is a major problem and generally results in a total reconstruction. However, TEB offered a smart and innovative solution. They recommended the installation of the Laykold Masters Float system, which prevented the need for an expensive and lengthy reconstruction.
TEB created several CAD design options with varying colours and layouts, before the school settled on one which catered for netball, basketball, volleyball and handball, plus included new sporting accessories.
TEB used their extensive Laykold product knowledge to present an innovative solution to the school’s continual cracking problem, whilst also delivering on their need for an appealing, multi-sport area. The students and staff at the Primary School were absolutely delighted with the transformation.
